Effective January 18, 2021, Calumet County Circuit Court returned to Phase Three of its COVID-19 Operating Plan. In-person processing of all cases, including jury trials, has resumed.
Pertinent, jury-specific safety precautions are in place, as well as general COVID-19 safety measures applicable to the public. When appropriate, remote appearances will continue to be utilized to the greatest extent possible.
The Calumet County Circuit Court actively monitors local COVID-19 conditions and will respond accordingly to a change in conditions, if warranted.
Circuit Court Responsibilities
The Calumet County Circuit Court consists of one branch and is part of the state court system. It is the court’s purpose to hear and determine, within Calumet County, all civil and criminal actions and proceedings unless exclusive jurisdiction is given to another court.
Court Commissioner Responsibilities
The purpose of the Court Commissioners, appointed by the Circuit Judge, is to aid in minimizing court delays by handling certain cases as directed by the Judge. The Circuit Court Commissioners assist the judiciary by handling criminal, traffic, small claims, and other hearings. The Family Court Commissioner handles family court matters including divorce, abuse injunctions, child support enforcement and small claims cases.
