The Calumet County Sheriff's Office Civil Process Division serves civil process papers as it is a statutory duty of the sheriff required by Wisconsin Statute 59.27(4), which reads: "The sheriff, personally, or by the under-sheriff or deputies, shall serve or execute all processes, writs, precepts and orders issued or made lawful authority and delivered to the sheriff."

Papers for Service

Papers for service within Calumet County will be accepted at the Sheriff's Office during normal business hours. These papers include subpoenas, summons and complaints, summons and petition for divorce, paternity actions, restraining orders, foreclosures, writs of eviction, execution, and replevin. You can also mail the request to the Sheriff's Office by attaching an informational sheet to the petitioner's and defendant's information, along with an additional sheriff department copy, and mailing to the address on the right. In 2012, 606 papers were processed.

Prepayment

Prepayment is required for civil process services. Service fees are set by County Board Resolution and are as follows:

Sales & Bids

Sheriff sales are conducted on Wednesdays at 10 a.m. in the Court Street lobby of the Calumet County Courthouse, 206 Court Street in Chilton. Anyone can bid on the property and the successful bidders are required to have 10% of their bid in cash, money order, or certified check at the time of sale, made payable to the Calumet County Clerk of Courts. There will also be a transfer fee of $.003 of the accepted bid, collected at the time of sale. This fee must be paid separately from the 10% required down payment and must be paid by personal or cashier's check. Make checks payable to the Calumet County Register of Deeds. The balance is due at the time of confirmation. The successful bidder is also responsible for all legal liens, encumbrances and unpaid real estate taxes.

All properties are sold "as is" and are not available for viewing. Sales are subject to cancellation at any time without notice. The Sheriff's Office does not have any specific information regarding the property being sold. You are encouraged to contact the attorney or lender who is foreclosing on the property.
