Disposal Locations
There are several locations in Northeast Wisconsin that provide residents with the ability to drop off their used or unwanted medical sharps. For the full list of registered collection locations, please go to the Department of Natural Resources (DNR's) website. Please contact the collection location prior to dropping off your sharps to find out if there are any residency restrictions or criteria you need to follow prior to your arrival. Contact information is provided on the DNR's list of registered collection facilities.

Drop-Off Instructions
Sharps are to be put into rigid puncture-resistant containers with secure lids or caps. Additional instructions are as follows:
- Containers are for hazardous sharps only.
- Please return the container when it is 3/4 full.
- Do not attempt to open the container.
- Store the container out of sight and reach of children.
- Close and lock the lid completely when returning container.
- Return the container in a plastic bag during courthouse hours.
Mail-Back Programs
Another option to dispose of sharps is to take advantage of the numerous mail-back programs that are available throughout the United States. Most programs will mail you a box with an approved sharps container inside. Once the container arrives, you simply fill it with sharps and mail the box back to the company. Pricing, container sizes, and services will vary greatly with these programs. It is important to research which company will meet your needs at an affordable price.
